ABOUT ME

I believe we need to listen carefully to the richness of life stories patients share with us. We must be able to consider all possibilities as we reach our clinical conclusions- so being an excellent doctor first and an excellent psychiatrist second us a standard to which I aspire. We need be truthful and provide our patients with comprehensive information, so that they can make truly informed choices about care. We need to always be honest

Becoming a new parent is most important job in the world- and supporting someone on that journey who is struggling is a privilege and a responsibility I never take for granted.

Supporting pregnancy, postnatal health, and the mother-child relationship with expert medical care integrated with evidence based lifestyle medicine and holistic approaches.

Dr Jo Black, is a consultant perinatal psychiatrist who

has spent more than two decades supporting parents through the emotional landscape of pregnancy and early parenthood. Alongside her clinical work in the South West, she has held national leadership roles with NHS England and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Dr Jo’s approach begins from a simple belief: that the universal experience of waves of emotions in pregnancy are deeply human. Not a problem to be solved, but a natural response to profound change. Sometimes it just takes some time to make sense of it all. Perinatal mental illness is different. and for those who experience poor mental health the right diagnosis, support and treatment changes and saves lives.
